La Union Philippines is also known as the surfing capital of the North. It is located in the Ilocos Region in Luzon. The capital is San Fernando City. La Union was created by a Royal Decree issued by the Spanish Queen Isabella on April 18, 1854. The towns were originally from Pangasinan,
Ilocos Sur and Cordilleras. The name of the province was derived from the union of the towns consisting as of today.

Surfing is the best outdoor activity La Union can offer. It is now one of the favored surfing spot in the Philippines after Siargao in Mindanao. San Juan is the best site to ride the waves. Beginners to advanced surfers will surely enjoy the waves. Surfing tutorial is now offered in those areas. There are also competitions aside from beach party in San Juan. It is usually in December and during
the summer vacation, around March to May.

Nightlife

There are bars in La Union you can hang out. Personal favorites are G5 and J1 bar. They have the best bands in town. G5 is located near Partas Station and J1 is located near the market area. There are also bars in Poro and in Bauang. Bars in Poro is near Wallace Station, an American Base before.

Casino

If you want to try your luck, La Union has Fiesta Casino and if your lucky enough try Thunderbird resort which is just adjacent from the casino building. Thunderbird boasts its golf course, state of the art rooms, overlooking the south China sea and a relaxing atmosphere.
